Dancing About Architecture's influences...

Maceo Parker
Maceo used to play sax with James Brown, now he does his own sort of 'funk with a bit of jazz' thing. Andrew recommends his album "Mo' Roots".

Galactic
The sort of music that you can tell is from New Orleans, really good funk with a really good drummer who you should also check out (Stanton Moore)

Charlie Hunter Trio
See also: Charlie Hunter Quartet and Quintet. He plays an 8-string guitar with 3 bass strings...sounds like two people playing at once. The other band members are bloody good too. Andrew recommends the tracks, "Greasy Granny", "Percussion Shuffle" (by the Quartet), and "Oakland" (by the Quintet). But they're all good.

Artist resources...

BrisPop.com
"Brispop.com is about providing local musicians with the tools necessary to effectively promote themselves and manage a successful independent music career."

BrisbaneMusos.com
"BrisbaneMusos is THE LARGEST online listing service in South East Queensland."

Last.fm
"one of the world's largest social music platforms with over 15 million active users based in more than 232 countries". It's one of those deals where it tracks what you listen to and recommends similar artists. You can subscribe as a band there too.

Organisations...

Jazz Queensland
"Jazz Queensland is non-profit, key service/presenter organisation. Dedicated to promoting and presenting, live jazz and contemporary improvised music in Queensland."

The Brisbane Jazz Club
If you haven't been there before, go. There's really good music and a nice 'club' atmosphere. They've also got a MySpace page.
